First Coast Pastel Society

Today was the first meeting of our newly formed First Coast Pastel Society.  It's great to be part of a new pastel society here in my new home. The mission of the new society is:
"To promote the use of soft pastel within the FCPS membership and the community at large as an important and continually evolving fine art medium."

Our moving force and first President is Lyn Asselta, PSA and she's been a real dynamo at getting the group off the ground. We has 15 attendees at our first meeting, which I thought was a pretty good turnout, and we had a great time watching Richard Lundgren, PSA, demo how he prepares his own surfaces for painting upon gatorboard.

I have just joined the pastel societyy and am or was very excited with the prospect of an organization close and all about Pastel painting. I have one major concern at this point at the meeting there was talk about using "white mats" exclusively. Personally I have never used white mats I think they are drab and boring. I currently have about 35 passtel pieces in my home and just checked and not any of them have white mats. This is a major concern to me. I feel like it is limiting my creativity. I need to know if this is going to be the rule here, if so I will probably not be entering any shows and would like to get a refund on my membership if possible. thanks for your time whomever is the decision maker on this matter. Sincerly Guy
